A Great Day of Flying

Angel City procured a Citation Mustang for a day and made full use of it. We brought it early morning from Burbank for a photo-shoot with the DA40 and DA42 and the weather was beautiful. The next mission was to give pilots a go at the controls flying IFR to San Bernadino. The most frequent observation after the flight? How familiar it was sitting up front, given the G1000 panel, GFC700 AFCS (auto pilot) and SVT. One pilot likened it to a roller coaster: a little trepidation before a wild ride leading to big smiles!

The Mustang will be a familiar sight at ACF as we are starting a Second In Command Type Rating program so be sure to inquire during your next visit.

Angel City Flyers is very happy to announce the commencement of SIC type rating training in the Citation Mustang Jet (CE510).   This is another important milestone in our commitment to provide complete progression from student pilot to future low earth orbital (LEO) flight training.
The Citation Mustang SIC Type Rating will form an integral part of our professional pilot course and a stand alone training course for those pilots wishing to get a structured in-depth introduction to jet operations. The SIC-Type rating allows a pilot to operate as co-pilot in Citation Mustang operations that require two crew.  Training will commence on September 14th.

Pierre Hallet has made quick work of completing his studies. In just two short weeks he finished his Private Pilot Written, learned to navigate around, across and through the complex LA airspace, learned all about DA40 systems and even found time for a little sight-seeing! His daughter Valerie was his instructor and directed the ACF team to assist Pierre in earning his rating. Even the weather helped: it had been foggy until 2:00pm each day the week before but was eerily clear by 7:00am the day of his checkride. Good work, Pierre! It has been a pleasure flying with you!

Congratulations to Pierre Hallet who completed his first third fifth sixth solo (but first in a DA40) yesterday! He has been under the tutelage of Valérie Hallet who is, as I’m sure you’ve guessed, his daughter. No stranger to flying, Pierre is visiting from Belgium where he has been a pilot of seemingly anything with wings for over 20 years and has flown almost literally around the world (visit http://www.earthchallenge.be/ for some amazing pictures). During this trip, he is working towards his FAA Private Pilot certificate and perhaps his Instrument Airplane during the next visit. Well done, Pierre & Valérie!

Jeff picked a hot day but stayed cool as he piloted his plane perfectly performing three picture-perfect landings here at KLGB. Jeff is working hard to finish his Private Pilot Certificate before the end of Summer and judging by today’s performance that goal is easily attainable. Well done, Jeff! Have a great vacation & we’ll see you when you return!

IFR Flying in the Twin

June 30th, 2010

Congratulations to Joe Daichendt for finishing an IFR add-on to his Multi-Engine rating! We worked with Joe exactly two years ago to earn his Multi Engine Private add-on but it was VFR only. He flew IFR in a DA40 for the past two years but recently acquired a lovely low-hour Twin Star and felt it time to change his rating. Way to go, Joe! We’ll see you soon for your Commercial rating!
