Our FAA approved level 5 Flight Training Device allows you to benefit from the type of equipment normally reserved for airline and corporate pilots. This allows us to train more effectively and efficiently to a greater level of proficiency.
The instrument rating is composed of a number of distinct phases, these include: -
- Basic Attitude Instrument Flying
- Radio Navigation (including GPS)
- Holding Procedures and DME Arcs
- Approach Procedures
- Cross Country IFR Procedures
- Abnormal and Emergency Procedures training
Pilot Knowledge Test Subject Areas
Aircraft Systems related to IFR, ATC procedures, IFR Regulations, Weather and Weather Services, IFR Navigation Systems and Charts, Cross Country Flight Planning, Single Pilot Cockpit Resource Management. Departure, Arrival and Approach procedures, IFR related abnormal and emergency procedures.
Prerequisites to Beginning Your Training
- 47 hours cross country PIC time
- Current pilot certificate and medical
Course Duration
We offer a ten day intensive instrument rating course for those who are familiar with the G1000 and have already passed their instrument rating written test. If you are new to the G1000, we have an optional 1 ½ day bridging course to the instrument rating.

Please note that we train to proficiency and as a consequence it may be possible that the training required will exceed the totals above. In such case, we will bill at the appropriate Angel City Flyers rates for any excess training.
